For many artists, myself included, Mount Saint Victoire in Aix en Provence means Cezanne. If you have ever seen his landscape paintings done in Aix you have probably seen it. He shows it many colored, but usually not white. I had just finished a summer giving numerous guided tours of the large Cezanne Exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I went to Aix and I wanted to paint the mountain. First of all, it is stark white with very little shrubbery. I walked the mountain. Harsh white!!! I positioned myself in a location he had painted from. This was hard. This was very difficult to paint through my own eyes.
